THE GLORY OF THE LORD 2 PETER 1:16-18
INTRO: VERSES 16,17 SPEAKS OF THE TRANSFIGURATION THAT’S RECORDED IN: MATTHEW 17:1,2 “ And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.” --BUT IN VERSE 17 JESUS RECEIVED HONOUR AND GLORY FROM GOD. --AND THAT S WHAT I WANT TO PREACH ON TODAY “THE GLORY OF THE LORD”
GLORY:( BIBLE DIC.) BEAUTY, POWER, OR HONOR; A QUALITY OF GOD’S CHARACTER THAT EMPHASIZES HIS GREATNESS AND AUTHORITY.
--THREE DISCIPLES HEARD GOD’S VOICE AND SAW THE GLORY OF GOD AND THE APPEARANCE OF MOSES AND ELIJAH. (PETER, JAMES, JOHN, Matt. 17:1,2) MATT. 17:3-8 “And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. --IM GLAD ONE DAY I HEARD GOD’S VOICE AND SAW HIS GLORY, THE DAY HE SAVED ME FROM MY SIN.. IM NOT BOUND BY SIN NO LONGER, I’VE BEEN SET FREE! --COULD YOU IMAGINED THAT DAY WHEN PETER, JAMES, AND JOHN SAW THE GLORY OF THE LORD. I’VE NEVER SEEN HIM LIKE THEY DID, BUT ONE DAY I WILL SEE HIM FACE TO FACE , IN HIS GLORY, WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE.
--I TELL YA WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE HIS GLORY: A- YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE CARES OF THIS LIFE B- WHAT YOUR GOING TO EAT C- HOW TO PAY YOUR BILLS -- JUST CAST YOUR CARES UPON HIM FOR HE CARES FOR YOU.
MOSES SAW HIS GLORY. WHEN HE CAME DOWN FROM MT. SINAI AND SAW HOW THAT THEY HAD MADE THEM A MOLTEN CALF AND WORSHIPPED IT. IN EXODUS 32:26 “Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. --EXODUS 33:18-23 “And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
SOLOMON GOT TO SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD FILL THE HOUSE OF GOD. 2 CHRON. 5:13,14 “It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
ISAIAH 6:1-4 HE SAW THE GLORY OF THE LORD. VERSES 1-4 “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
SOME PLACES YOU WANT FIND THE GLORY OF THE LORD! 1- IN A LOT OF MODERN DAY CHURCHES. (PROGRAMES GOD OUT) 2- IN DEAD, LIFELESS, DRIED UP CHURCHES (IF THE SPIRIT OF GOD WOULD REALLY MANIFEST ITSELF, IT WOULD SCAR THEM TO DEATH) 3- IN CHURCHES THAT ARE PATTERNED AFTER THE WORLD (WORLDLY MUSIC WITH CHRISTIAN WORDS) (NO MORALS IN DRESS, TALK , WALK) (ANYTHING GOES IN THE HOUSE OF GOD)
BUT THANK GOD THERE IS SOME PLACES YOU WILL FIND THE GLORY OF THE LORD! THE GLORY OF THE LORD WAS FOUND: 1- IN A MANGER --WHEN WE READ THE STORY OF THE MANGER THERE IN BETHLEHEM, WE SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD (BEAUTY, POWER, HONOR, GREATNESS) --VIRGIN BORN SON OF GOD. (WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES) --AS THE ANGELS APPEARED TO THE SHEPHERDS THAT NIGHT A MULTITUDE OF HEAVENLY HOST WAS PRAISING GOD, AND SAYING GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST AND ON EARTH PEACE GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN. --THE BIBLE SAYS IN JOHN 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. --CAME IN THE FLESH BUT STILL GOD. HE HAD FINGERNAILS, EYELASHES, SKIN LIKE MINE AND YOURS BUT STILL GOD. 1 TIM. 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. --THERE WAS A MAN NAMED SIMEON FOUND IN LUKE 2:25-30. A JUST AND DEVOUT MAN, AND THE HOLY GHOST WAS UPON HIM AND IT WAS REVEALED UNTO HIM BY THE HOLY GHOST THAT HE SHOULD NOT SEE DEATH BEFORE HE HAD SEEN THE LORDS CHRIST. AND IN VERSES 27-30 “And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,” THE GLORY OF THE LORD WAS AND CAN BE SEEN :
2- IN THE CROSS --AT THE CROSS, AT THE CROSS , WHERE I FIRST SAW THE LIGHT , AND THE BURDEN OF MY HEART ROLLED AWAY, IT WAS THERE BY FAITH I RECEIVED MY SIGHT, AND NOW I AM HAPPY ALL THE DAY. --THANK GOD FOR THAT OLD RUGGED CROSS. IN THE OLD RUGGED CROSS, STAINED WITH BLOOD SO DIVINE, A WONDROUS BEAUTY I SEE, FOR TWAS ON THAT OLD CROSS JESUS SUFFERED AND DIED, TO PARDON AND SANCTIFY ME.
--WITH OUT THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD THERE WOULD BE NO REMISSION FOR SIN. I TELL YOU THERE IS GLORY IN THE CROSS OF JESUS. THERE IS POWER, POWER, WONER WORKING POWER IN THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF THE LAMB. --BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT SOME ARE ENEMIES OF THE CROSS. --I THANK GOD I’VE BEEN TO CALVARY AND BEHELD THE GLORY OF THE LORD. --THE CROSS IS A SYMBOL OF JESUS LOVE AND GOD’S POWER TO SAVE 3- IN THE CHRISTIAN --JOHN 17:22 “ And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:” --THANK GOD FOR THE OLD CHRISTIAN SAINTS THAT LIVED, THAT THE GLORY OF THE LORD COULD BE SEEN IN THEM. --MOSES HAD SO MUCH OF THE GLORY OF GOD ON HIM, HE HAD TO PUT A VEIL OVER HIS FACE WHEN HE WOULD COME OUT AND TALK TO THE CHILDREN OF ISREAL AND WHEN HE WOULD GO BACK INTO THE TENT TO TALK TO GOD HE WOULD TAKE THE VEIL OFF. (EX. 34:30-35) --HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET SO CLOSE TO GOD , YOU WOULD HAVE TO WEAR A VEIL BECAUSE OF HIS POWER AND GLORY. --THERES GLORY WHEN YOU GET SAVED. PS. 21:5 “His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him.” AND WHEN YOU GET SAVED, YOU NEVER GET OVER IT. --I WANT THE GLORY OF THE LORD ON MY PREACHING, IN THE PULPIT, IN MY WALK , TALK. (LET THE LIGHT IN YOU SHINE)
4- IN THE CHURCH --MATT. 16:18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” --EPH. 3:21 “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” --THE CHURCH THAT’S TRUE WILL BRING GLORY TO THE LORD. --THE CHURCH WAS FOUNDED ON THE DEATH, RESURRECTION, AND ASCENTION OF JESUS, AND THAT’S THE GLORY OF THE LORD. --CHRIST DIED FOR THE CHURCH. --WE NEED TO KEEP IT HOLY, REVERENT… THIS IS HOLY GROUND. --WHEN MOSES WAS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE DESERT AND WHEN THE ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED UNTO HIM IN THE BURNING BUSH. GOD TOLD HIM TO TAKE OFF HIS SHOES FOR THE PLACE WHERE ON THOU STANDEST IS HOLY GROUND. --THANK GOD I’VE SEEN THE GLORY OF THE LORD IN THE CHURCH AND IN THIS CHRUCH.
CONCLUSION: CAN YOU SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD IN YOUR LIFE, OR DO YOU WANT THE GLORY OF THE LORD TO BE SEEN!
